Nothilfe Rückblick

nach gut 10 Tagen haben wir gestern, am Samstag, unsere Nothilfeaktion für die vom Zyklon Freddy besonders betroffenen Menschen beendet. Während dieser Zeit hatten wir unser ‚Hauptquartier‘ in Blantyre. Dort haben wir auch die Hilfsgüter erworben. Wir waren schwerpunktmäßig in den 3 Distrikten Mulanje, Chickwawa und Nsanje unterwegs und haben dabei 7 sogenannte Camps mit insgesamt ca. 12.000 Menschen besucht. Oft waren wir zwar nicht das erste Team vor Ort, aber meist das erste Team, das Hilfsgüter mitbrachte. Von euren Spenden haben wir mehr als 90% in den Erwerb der Hilfsgüter und die restlichen ca. 10% in Sprit, Unterkunft und Essen investiert. Dank eurer Spenden konnten wir insgesamt ca. 4,5 Tonnen Reis und Mais sowie ca. 0,5 Tonnen Salz, Sojaschnitzel, Waschmittel und Fackeln an die Menschen verteilen. Neben ganz vielen anderen Eindrücken hat uns ganz besonders eine Situation emotional sehr stark berührt. Während des Ausladens waren einigen Reiskörner aus einem defekten Sack in den Matsch gefallen. Einige Kinder, die seit mehreren Tagen nichts gegessen hatten, haben diese Reiskörner aufgesammelt und gegessen.

after nearly 10 days we finished yesterday, Saturday, our emergency relief operation for the people particularly affected by Cyclone Freddy. During this time we had our ‚headquarters‘ in Blantyre. There we also purchased the relief supplies. We were mainly in the 3 districts Mulanje, Chickwawa and Nsanje on the road and have visited 7 so-called camps with a total of about 12,000 people. Often we were not the first team on site, but mostly the first team to bring relief supplies. From your donations we have invested more than 90% in the purchase of the relief goods and the remaining 10% in fuel, accommodation and food. Thanks to your donations, we were able to distribute a total of about 4.5 tons of rice and corn as well as about 0.5 tons of salt, soy chips, detergent and torches to the people. Among many other impressions, one situation in particular touched us emotionally. During the unloading, some rice grains had fallen out of a defective bag into the mud. Some children, who had not eaten for several days, picked up these grains of rice and ate them.
